چکیده
Modem dermatology looks more and more closely in to "old" substances wich proved to be effecti ve and safe. In addition, most of them are much cheaper than the new compounds. Urea is one of the o ld substances which were used more and more often in topica( therapy of dermatoses, either alone or in combination wi th a steroid, anthralin, retinoic acid or salicylic acid. In this paper, biochemistry and pharmacology of urea with special reference to its topical applicat ion were outlined. In many dermatbses, urea containig preparations may be successfully appl ied. Lasty, the possibilities of urea in cosmetology are briefly discussed.
